About the Artist
Rick Lowe is an American artist known for his pioneering work in social practice art, blending painting, installation, and community-based projects to explore equity and justice. Originally trained as a painter, he shifted his focus in the early 1990s to urban revitalization, co-founding Project Row Houses in Houston’s Third Ward—transforming shotgun houses into a cultural and social hub. His work has been exhibited globally, including at Documenta 14, the Venice Architecture Biennale, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles. A MacArthur Fellow, Lowe is also a professor at the University of Houston, where he continues to merge art with civic engagement.
