Usage of licensed images
Research and educational use
Image licensing can provide a print, or low-resolution digital file (JPG) of a work of art from our collection for scholarly or personal research or for educational use in the classroom, including a thesis, dissertation or other school-related paper.
Requests must include contact information (name, address, telephone, email), and specify the image(s) requested.
These materials are for research and educational purposes only and are not intended for use in a publication, broadcast or any other medium. If you are interested in obtaining a reproduction of a work of art to use in a publication or other project, please see “Publishing, advertising and other projects” below.

Publishing, advertising + other projects
To obtain photographic materials for use as part of a publication, textbook, journal, promotional campaign or other project, please review the following guidelines before submitting your request.
Requests must include contact information (name, address, telephone, email), specify the image(s) requested and the following information applicable to your project:
- Publication/project title
- Publication/release date
- Geographic distribution area/territory
- Print run/circulation
- Publication format/media
- Image size
- Retail/unit price
For all online projects, you must provide the Internet address/URL and the duration your project will be available online.
We will provide you with one of the following for reproduction: 4×5 duplicate color transparency (subject to availability), 300 dpi image via Dropbox or email.
Shipping + payments for licensed images
We accept payment by check. Credit card transactions are no longer accepted.
Most orders are delivered digitally via Dropbox or email. For prints or slides we ship all domestic orders standard U.S. Mail in flat, cardboard packs, unless otherwise specified.
U.S. Domestic First-Class (2-3 days) $7.00
For international orders, expedited orders or to arrange service with an alternate courier (UPS or FedEx), please provide your account number when submitting your request. If you do not have an account with an alternate courier but would like to request this option, we will add the estimated cost of shipping the package to your invoice (the fee will vary by destination).
