Join us for a conversation with internationally renowned artist Rick Lowe and Senior Curator Alana Hernandez as part of the Black Arts and Culture Council Artist Lecture Series.

About the Artist
Rick Lowe is an American artist known for his pioneering work in social practice art, blending painting, installation, and community-based projects to explore equity and justice. Originally trained as a painter, he shifted his focus in the early 1990s to urban revitalization, co-founding Project Row Houses in Houston’s Third Ward—transforming shotgun houses into a cultural and social hub. His work has been exhibited globally, including at Documenta 14, the Venice Architecture Biennale, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles. A MacArthur Fellow, Lowe is also a professor at the University of Houston, where he continues to merge art with civic engagement.

About the Black Arts and Culture and Council
The establishment of the Black Arts and Culture Council acknowledges that ASU Art Museum must take urgent, reparative measures to honor the legacy and continued contributions of Black artists. Our goal is to add 100 works of art to the ASU Art Museum’s collections by 2032 via acquisitions, donations and special art commissions. Learn more about the Council
