The Jules Heller Print Study Room at the ASU Art Museum provides a secure environment for the care and storage of the print collection while also being an accessible resource for students and the public. One of the largest collections at the ASU Art Museum, there are more than 6,000 prints with a broad historic scope, ranging from an early Bible page to contemporary work, including artists from Europe, Asia, Cuba and the Americas. Art movements in the collection include the Renaissance, Ukiyo-e, Post-Impressionism, German Expressionism, American Regionalism and Pop Art. The majority of these artworks have been gifts to the museum and are utilized in exhibitions and research.
Classes, groups or individuals can make an appointment to see a selection of prints from the collection, offering a rare opportunity to view a print without a frame’s glass. To further assist the educational experience, on display are examples of tools used to create the prints and the Print Collection Manager is available to explain the tools and printmaking processes to students, professors and scholars.
The ASU Art Museum has a strong base on which to build its print holdings and programs; we will continue collecting work of significant aesthetic, historic, social and political importance and organizing exhibitions from the museum’s print collection.
