Join the ASU Art Museum and Chris Hoshnic at a poetry workshop this fall!
Language of the Four Directions is a multi-site ekphrasis poetry workshop series rooted in Diné philosophy, exploring how place, community and direction influence creative expression.
Through this series, we will activate the same artwork across five different locations, engaging with it through writing, storytelling and shared reflection to understand how each “area’s language” uniquely responds to the piece.
Each workshop will center on a single shared image or artwork, used as an anchor across time and space. Drawing from Diné’s four directional teachings — East (Ha’a’aah), South (Shádi’ááh), West (E’e’aah) and North (Náhookǫs) — we will consider how landscape, positionality and community shape our interpretation and voice.
Location: South Mountain Community Library (7050 S 24th St, Phoenix, AZ 85042)
Date: Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025
Time: 3–5 p.m.
