From Darkness to Light: Figurative Works from the Permanent Collection

Drawn from ASU Art Museum’s permanentcollections, this exhibition highlights the work of 31 internationally andnationally known artists who represent the human form in order to convey avast range of emotions. A breadth of emotions are explored in the works ondisplay ranging from lightheartedness and humor to anguish and despair.”From Darkness to Light​” features ​both ceramic and print media,representing two of ​ASU Art Museum’s ​largest and ​strongest holdings.Notably, the prints selected for the exhibition are all by artists who​ workprimarily in ceramics.

Public Lecture: Oct. 22, 2018 at6:30 p.m.

In conjunction with the exhibition, visiting artist ClaireCurneen (also highlighted in the exhibition) will be giving a public lectureon Monday, Oct. 22, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ceramics Research Center at theBrickyard.

Claire Curneen’s work is distinct for its figurativerepresentation. As one of the U.K.’s foremost ceramic artists, Curneendraws us into a world of narrative where the tension between the real andthe imagined is played out before us. Her ceramic figures have an imposingpresence which tap into our desires, fears and mysteries.

This lectureis supported by the Windgate Charitable Foundation as part of the WindgateContemporary Craft Initiative at ASU Art Museum.
