9th ANNUAL FAMILY FUN DAY
Saturday, July 12
10am – 2pm
EXPLORING DREAMS: Images from the Permanent Collection
Throughout history, dreams have inspired artists to capture their spirit and bring the imaginary to life. Exploring Dreams presents artwork that echoes the dreamlike, surreal images encountered in the depths of sleep and in the shades of waking. The exhibition examines the concepts and science of dreams: what dreams are and their purpose and meanings. To further enhance viewer’s experience during the visit, hands-on and informational activities at the gallery are specially designed to encourage visitors to explore their own dreams through images and text.
The annual Family Exhibition at the ASU Art Museum is part of the museum’s InterLab initiative that presents projects that involve collaboration with multiple disciplines, infusing a multi-level appreciation of the artwork, enriching the viewing experience and demonstrating the relevance of art to people’s lives.
This summer’s dream-inspired theme is also highlighted by this year’s Family Fun Day on Saturday, July 12, 2008, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Family Fun Day celebrates rich arts and cultural environments in local communities and encourages increasing community engagements for valley families year round. Free to the pubic, this year’s Family Fun Day provides hands-on activities, such as making dream-catcher and other dream-inspired arts and craft; it also entertains families and visitors with dance, music and theatrical performances suitable for all ages. CONDER Dance, AZ Opera in a Box and other local groups and volunteers will showcase their best performances throughout the day, spreading all the fun and joy across gallery spaces.
Channel Eight, Arizona PBS (KAET), brings Sister Bear of the Berenstain Bears for photos with children and offers children a fun activity to do. Rocky and the Puckpatrol from the Phoenix Roadrunners will also be here! China Mist offers free refreshments.
