The Aftermath (9/11): Photographs by Janis Lewin

An artist living in New York City, Janis Lewin walked around the city in the aftermath of September 11, capturing on film the shrines, faces of the lost and the reflections of the living. This exhibition is a memorial to that tragic day.

About the Artist
Janis Lewin lives and works in New York City. She received a BA from the University of California at Berkeley and went on to study at the International Center of Photography in New York. Her work has been included in exhibitions at El Museo del Barrio, New York; HBO Gallery, New York; and as part of the exhibition Top 100 Photographers, Maine Photographic Workshops Golden Light Competition. She has been working on a long-term project photographing in Cuba for over a decade.

Season Opening Reception
On Friday, September 20, the ASU Art Museum will present receptions for Mark Klett: Ideas About Time, Subjectivity: Photographs of Themselves, Embracing Night: New Ceramics by Farraday Newsome Sredl, and Pipilotti Rist: Sip My Ocean and other videos from 7 – 9pm at the Arizona State University Art Museum’s Nelson Fine Arts Center location and Ceramic Research Center.

ASU Art Museum Presentation
Organized by Jean Makin, The Aftermath (9/11): Photographs by Janis Lewin will be installed in the Multi-Purpose Gallery of the Arizona State University Art Museum’s Nelson Fine Arts Center location.

Duration
The Aftermath (9/11): Photographs by Janis Lewin (August 17 – October 20, 2002) is open Tuesday from 10am – 9pm, Wednesday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday from 1pm to 5pm.
