How can I let the ASU Art Museum’s curatorial staff know about my artwork?
If you would like the curatorial staff to learn more about your work, please send written materials and reproductions only. Unfortunately, we cannot accept original works of art. Due to the volume of correspondence we receive, we may not be able to respond directly to each and every submission and we cannot assume responsibility for or guarantee the return of any materials that are submitted.
Materials may be sent to:

Or sent via email to asuartmuseum@asu.edu
I am an artist / ASU Alumni / ASU faculty / ASU staff. Can I submit materials for consideration for an exhibition at the Museum?
The ASU Art Museum mounts anywhere from six to eight exhibitions annually by invitation. Most of these originate from the Museum’s curatorial team. At times, the Museum hosts traveling exhibitions from other museums or institutions. While the ASU Art Museum does not accept unsolicited submissions, nor is there a submission process, we do invite you to attend our public programs and exhibitions which are excellent ways to meet our staff.
How do I donate or see if the Museum is interested in works of art from my collection?
Since the ASU Art Museum opened in 1950, collectors, ASU alumni, artists, and philanthropists from across the Metro-Phoenix region and the United States have donated artwork to grow the Museum’s extensive holdings to share with our community. The Museum is proud to steward a collection that boasts over 13,000 works of art, inclusive of a collection of over 3,000 ceramic objects and 6,000 prints and works on paper.
The Museum’s Curatorial Department gives careful consideration to all gifts before accepting objects into the Museum’s collection.
In order for the Museum to consider the work, please send an email indicating your intention to offer the work as a gift or promised gift along with a reproduction of the piece and detailed object information (artist, artist’s dates, title, work date, process, dimensions, edition number and preferred donor credit information for the gift).
Please note in the subject line of your email Senior Curator and send your information to asuartmuseum@asu.edu . Upon receipt, a representative from the ASUAM will be in touch to discuss the next steps within the following weeks.
How are artwork donations reviewed and accepted into the collection?
The Curatorial Department will evaluate the gift to ensure it is appropriate for the Museum’s collecting areas of: 19th and 20th Century Art of the Americas, 20th Century and Contemporary Craft, Contemporary art, Historic and Contemporary Prints, Contemporary Indigenous, Black Arts and Culture and Latinx and Latin American Art.
All gifts are subject to final approval by the Collections Committee. Following the Curatorial Department’s evaluation of the work, the Collections Committee will meet to review the gift and vote to accept it into the collection. The Collections Committee meets quarterly. Please note that this review process can take up to several months to complete.
Why would the Museum decline works of art?
The Collections Committee and Curatorial department may not accept gifts for several reasons. Most commonly, the works donated fall outside the Museum’s collecting categories, similar works are already held in the Museum’s collection, the work contains condition issues or the work is not of Museum quality. However, there are other ways your work of art can still be donated to support the Museum and its mission: www.asufoundation.org/arts-and-community/asu-art-museum/
My artwork was not accepted into the ASU Art Museum Collection. Can it still support the Museum?
Yes! Works not accepted into the Museum’s collection can be donated to the ASU Art Museum Legacy Fund. Please look under the Support tab for more information.
