SUMMARY:Waltzing on the ASU Tempe Campus: John Cage's "49 Waltzes for the Five Boroughs of      New York"
DESCRIPTION:The ASU Art Museum presents an audio-visual installation of a version of Cage’s “49 Waltzes” for the ASU Tempe campus\, realized by 23 students from the School of Music and the School of Arts\, Media + Engineering for the museum.\nIn 1977 the American composer John Cage created “49 Waltzes for the Five Boroughs of New York.” The work’s score is a map of New York City and features 49 superimposed triangles. Each triangle symbolizes a waltz. Cage obtained each point of the triangles via chance operations to pin down a specific location. Performers of “49 Waltzes” visit each identified location to capture its sounds and sights to experience\, treasure and document the acoustic ecology of a place.\nCage encouraged transcriptions of this work for other places. Thus students of ASU’s School of Music and School of Arts\, Media + Engineering teamed up to transcribe this work for their Tempe campus.

SUMMARY:Funk: Viola Frey
DESCRIPTION:“Funk: Viola Frey” is on view until March 23\, 2019. \nThis exhibition features work by Viola Frey\, an artist who worked on the fringe of the Funk Art movement\, which she called a “boys club.” Frey’s brash\, figurative sculptures are larger than life. SUMMARY:A Bigger Plan

SUMMARY:From Darkness to Light: Figurative Works from the Permanent Collection
DESCRIPTION:Drawn from ASU Art Museum’s permanentcollections\, this exhibition highlights the work of 31 internationally andnationally known artists who represent the human form in order to convey avast range of emotions. SUMMARY:Decomiso: Faivovich and Goldberg
DESCRIPTION:“Decomiso” is an installation-based exhibition by the Argentinian contemporary artist duo Guillermo Faivovich and Nicolas Goldberg. Since 2006\, Faivovich and Goldberg have been engaged in an intensive and wide-ranging research project — “A Guide to Campo del Cielo” — that forms the basis of their practice. Campo del Cielo is located in northern Argentina and was the site of a meteor shower an estimated 4\,000 years ago. \nMore recently\, the artists have been in residence at ASU Art Museum’s Artist Residency\, working with the ASU Center for Meteorite Studies using microphotography to produce images of thinly sliced sections of a meteorite. \nFor “Decomiso” (which translates to seizure )\, the artists have designed a unique installation that features video\, sound\, sculpture and 405 photographs. \nThis exhibit is supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts\, ASU Design and the Arts Library and Paramo Gallery.
