DESCRIPTION:“Cross Check: William Wegman and Jacob Trouba\,” brings together the distinct practices of artist William Wegman and professional hockey player turned artist Jacob Trouba. “Cross Check: William Wegman and Jacob Trouba” explores movement as a form of artistic production\, translation\, and collaboration. Rooted in the shared language of hockey\, the exhibition examines the body as both subject and medium through a series of collaborative works presented publicly for the first time. Drawing on his experience as an athlete\, Trouba covers himself in ink while wearing hockey gear and propels himself across the canvas\, leaving behind marks that record speed\, force\, and impact. Wegman responds by translating those gestures into paintings that reinterpret the movement at an intimate scale\, creating an ongoing dialogue between action and reflection. Borrowing its title from the hockey maneuver in which a player forcefully checks an opponent with both hands on the stick\, Cross Check reveals how physicality\, play\, and creative exchange transform movement\, whether on the ice or in the studio\, into a powerful form of artistic expression. \n\n“Cross Check: William Wegman and Jacob Trouba” is organized by Senior Curator Alana Hernandez and Windgate Curatorial Fellow Sade Moore and made possible by generous funding from NHL Unites. Additional support is provided by the ASU Art Museum’s Creative Impact Board\, Director’s Council and Innovation Council.

DESCRIPTION:Presented in recognition of the ASU Art Museum’s 75th anniversary\, “The Collection at 75: Selected Acquisitions from 1950–2025” traces the evolution of the collection through works acquired across time. The exhibition highlights longstanding strengths in craft\, prints\, Latinx and Latin American art and socially engaged practices\, while examining how shifting cultural contexts\, artistic approaches and institutional priorities have guided collecting decisions over time. Organized according to when artworks were acquired rather than when they were created\, the exhibition invites visitors to consider the relationships and values that have shaped the institution across generations and continue to advance its commitment to centering artists in the service of community well-being and social good. \n“The Collection at 75: Selected Acquisitions from 1950–2025” is organized by ASU Art Museum Latinx Curatorial Fellow Natalie Solis\, with ASU Art Museum Curator Brittany Corrales and ASU Art Museum Windgate Curatorial Fellow Sade Moore.
